SANTIAGO to CASTRO

We boarded the Quest and quickly settled into life onboard. We were met at  the gangway by the Cruise Director - who was the same one we had on our previous cruise several years ago on Legend - Jan (a small world).

While waiting for our suite to be ready we were shown the pool deck and given our cocktails (and something to eat). A great start.

The suite is very nice, great bed, a bar (especially now that I have a bottle of single malt in it) and lovely staff. But that's Seabourn.

That evening we were invited to dinner along with 5 others with one of the guest entertainers - Steve Stevens (comedian). Very funny night.

Our first day at sea. Calm balmy day and we were out to meet our fellow travelers. For Sally, Gary, Trixie and Barry - we met Sally and Gary's clones from the Gold Coast.  They love a drink or 2 - so here we go again.

Our first port of call was Puerto Monte in Chile. There wasn't much to do there so 4 of us decided to stretch our legs and walk around the town. Julie couldn't resist and bought a couple of penguin statues.

Back onboard early for late lunch and multiple pina coladas and later a followup with scotch tasting before bed. Slept well.

Next morning we anchored in Castro. A very quaint town which has become a place where the Chileans holiday. It is on South America's second largest island (Chiloe) and was visited by Charles Darwin in 1838. It was first inhabited by Chonos natives (now extinct) and Mapuches from the north. A blend of native and Spanish conquistadors gave rise to the Chilotes. The town's architecture is very much influenced by the Jesuits missionaries dating back to the 1600's. Apparently they built churches everywhere (150+). 16 are now World Heritage sites.

Again we walked around the town and took in the sights. Nice coffee in a cafe whilst we hit the internet

Back onboard for champagne and caviar sail away.

Dinner at the Grill tonight. Lobster, wagyu steak and a fine wine. This was followed by the night entertainment by a very talented musician.

To bed, feeling very content.

Tomorrow is a day at sea. Time to hit the gym.
