The Falklands
We set sail for the Falklands in calm seas and it stayed that way all across the Drakes Passage. Quite amazing.
First night out and we chilled out with dinner in the suite.

We were to have 2 days sailing to cross but due to the conditions the Captain up the speed and added an extra stop at New Island in the Falklands.
There is not much there except the wild life. We took a zodiac to shore and spent about 2 hours looking at the amazing scenery.
There were geese
and Rock-hopper penguins and Albatross
And more penguins
and more Albatross
And other strange creatures
But it all came to an end and we headed back to the ship for a sail around to Port Stanley tomorrow.
We arrived in Stanley, which is the capital of the Falkland Islands. Founded in 1843 as a major repair stop for ships travelling through the Magellan Straits (prior to the Panama Canal). Today the majority of the inhabitants are employed by the British Government with tourism being the major source of revenue. It was also center of the war between Argentina and UK in 1982.
We went ashore for a couple of hours as there is very little to see unless you headed out to see more penguins (King penguins) on a 7hr tour.
A walk along the main street just about covered the town sights including Government House.
So we set sail for Montivedeo at 1400. Still calm seas but misty.
2 days at sea ahead of us. Time for more food !!! (the weight is piling on).
