Rio and Venture

 We left Sydney as scheduled headed for Rio via a short stop and Santiago. Or so we thought.

We scored an upgrade to Business and settled in for a comfortable flight to Santiago. 



Great except for 1 minor detail. The plane was delayed taking off by over an hour which resulted in us missing our connection in Santiago. So what was supposed to be a 90 min wait turned into 5 hrs. Qantas did get us on the next scheduled flight but not in the Business class. The flight was full. I was stuck near the rear of the plane, middle row, knees up around my ears and a very unhappy infant just behind me. Without a doubt the most uncomfortable 4 hr flight ever experienced.

We got to Rio and slept. 

Day 2 in Rio and took a trip to Copacabana and a mandatory stop at a shopping centre so that Julie could have her shopping fix.  Back to the hotel and crashed around the pool (with a margarita of course).





The rest of the stay in Rio was very uneventful. Still recovering from the jetlag. 



So we joined the ship on 17th. What a breeze. There are 149 passengers (max capacity is 240) so it is just over half full. Going to get a lot of personalised attention from the staff.

Met up with a group of Aussies from St Ives and South Turramurra. Small world.

Venture is a very beautiful ship.












We sailed in the late afternoon and said goodbye to Rio (but we will return on our way to Iguazu Falls)


Calm seas and warm weather lay ahead.

Tomorrow we sail in to Armacao Dos Buzios

 After Darwin we head towards a new area of expedition. Day 12 We woke to a sunny day, warm (approx 32 deg), slight swell and a few white caps as we sailed  north-west across Beagle Golf towards the Timor Sea. Our next 2 days at sea. Time to chill out and just lie around, play trivia, gym (maybe), eat (Seabourn rule - you must consume food at least every 45 mins) followed by, or with, more alcohol. Throughout the ship there are many options. The Restaurant The Club The Colonnade The Pool Deck Coffee and ice cream at the Square A snack if in dire need of top up A lot of new guests joined in Darwin and the majority has now shifted to Americans. The average age has also shifted upwards (just) so we are probably in the younger mix well at least we feel that way😊. Our New Adventure - The Kimberleys, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea - Part 1 Day 1-5

 Having been landlocked since last December Julie and I once again decided to set sail to new territories. This time staying a little closer to home.  On Aug 1 we flew across Aus to Broome where we joined Seabourn Pursuit on a 25 day expedition cruise through the Kimberleys, Darwin, onto remote areas in Indonesia and PNG and finishing in Honiara in Solomon Islands. Day 1 So it was a very early start for with the car picking us up at 5.15. A very quick trip to the airport with very little traffic on the road followed by an early check in. Being a domestic flight there were no duty free shopping 😊. The flight was just over 5 hours so I got an exit seat for the leg room whilst Julie had the normal seat. Our New Adventure - Part 2

  Day 6 Sailing amongst the crocs. We had an early start in Hunter's River. It is an extremely remote region mainly visited by sports fishermen, wilderness cruises and scientists, apart from the indigenous people who live in the area. There are several channels to the Hunter River, the lower reaches of most being heavily fringed with mangrove swamps hosting large populations of Saltwater crocs. Our zodiac cruise along the river encountered a number of croc sightings. Up close and personnel with a couple just chilling out on the rocks thinking how yummy we look  There were also sightings of bird life to distract us from the hungry critters Back onboard, into the jacuzzi with the mandatory cocktail to ease the back pain from the zodiac.
